Take a tour of our Center for Ecological Agriculture (CEA) on the outskirts of Cochabamba, Bolivia with Mano a Mano agronomists Camila and Victor.

The CEA was started in 2012 with the goal of demonstrating good agricultural practices in action for rural Bolivian communities, and the site has been growing over the past 4-5 years to include many more tools & techniques. Also, 3 out of 4 Mano a Mano's counterpart organizations are now on the same site as the CEA, which helps with integrating some of our projects, such as the sorting and distribution of donated supplies shipped from Minnesota.

Mano a Mano completed a new water reservoir in Wirkini, Bolivia in October 2016, and the residents are excited for the possibilities that it brings to help them improve their yields, plant more crops, and ultimately improve their lives.

The Wirkini project joins Mano a Mano's 8 other large-scale water retention projects that benefit 131,062 people throughout Bolivia (51,062 directly). Our first water reservoir was built in Ucuchi, Bolivia in 2005 (this reservoir is the other project featured in the video) and has been consistently providing water to the community for more than a decade, even in times of drought like Bolivia is currently experiencing. We are expecting the Wirkini reservoir to work as well as the Ucuchi reservoir, for many years to come.

Each of these projects is a huge effort, involving the community, their municipal government, our counterpart organization Mano a Mano Nuevo Mundo, and many other supporters. Without the commitment of so many people, none of these projects would be possible!

Mano a Mano collects donated supplies in Minnesota and ships them to Bolivia, where they are distributed to people and organizations in need throughout the country.

Check out footage and interviews from our most recent large-scale distribution of supplies in October 2016 at the Mano a Mano warehouse in Cochabamba, Bolivia, when more than 90,000 pounds of supplies were given away.

The surplus program is the program that started Mano a Mano more than 22 years ago; with the dedicated support of hundreds of volunteers in both the US & Bolivia, we have collected and shipped millions of pounds of supplies since 1994.

Our mission is to create partnerships with impoverished Bolivian communities that improve health and increase economic well-being. Learn more about this program on our website:  http://manoamano.org/blog/video-minnesota-bolivia-distributing-donated-medical-supplies/

Mano a Mano collects surplus supplies at its St. Paul, Minnesota warehouse and distributes them in Bolivia to Mano a Mano projects, other organizations, and people in need. Watch interviews from Minnesota volunteers that sort & pack these donated supplies, and people in Bolivia that have benefited directly from these supplies - ranging from large hospitals that receive x-ray machines to people in need of a wheelchair.

This simple idea - of saving supplies destined for landfills in the US and sending them to Bolivia, where we knew they were needed and could be put to good use - was the program that started Mano a Mano more than 20 years ago. Since 1994, Mano a Mano has distributed more than 3.5 million pounds of supplies throughout Bolivia. Learn more about Mano a Mano on our website:  http://manoamano.org

Ivo Velasquez from Mano a Mano's counterpart organization Mano a Mano Nuevo Mundo talks about the impact our newest water reservoir project in Wirkini will have for the communities in the area. We completed our most recent water reservoir project in Wirkini, Bolivia in October 2016. The reservoir provides access to water for more than 2,000 people in the 5 communities in the area. People were extremely happy with the completion of the project, saying that the reservoir is the “inheritance that they will give to their children.”

In just the 6 weeks that the reservoir has been in operation, farmers have been able to irrigate their fields, twice – during the national state of emergency for drought. One farmer mentioned in the video says that he will be able to harvest 80 bushels of potatoes with the reservoir, instead of the 20 bushels he can grow now.

In late October 2014, Mano a Mano dedicated a 60-kilometer (37+ miles) road project in El Palmar, Bolivia. This was one of our most challenging projects in our history, and for us is a huge accomplishment to complete.

Thanks to everyone that collaborated with Mano a Mano to make this project happen, from our counterpart organization Mano a Mano Nuevo Mundo that oversaw the project design and construction, to the Municipality of Culpina, to the communities themselves!

Bolivians from rural areas talk about the impact that Mano a Mano projects have had for them and their communities.

This video made its debut at Mano a Mano's 20th Anniversary Celebration in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday, April 12, 2014. We were happy to have 320+ Mano a Mano supporters and 5 of our staff members from Bolivia in attendance as we celebrated our 20th year in operation!
