A decade ago a small group of documentary filmmakers set out with a dream to create a film rooted in the music of the streets. Not only has that dream been realized, it has blossomed into a global sensation called Playing For Change, a project including musicians of every level of renown, that has touched the lives of millions of people around the world.

While traveling the world filming and recording musicians, the crew became intimately involved with the music and people of each community they visited. Although many of these communities had limited resources and a modest standard of living, the people in them were full of generosity, warmth, and above all they were connected to each other by a common thread: music.

Out of these discoveries, the Playing For Change Foundation was born and made its mission to ensure that anyone with the desire to receive a music education would have the opportunity to do so. The Playing For Change Foundation is dedicated to the fundamental idea that peace and change are possible through the universal language of music.

On September 21st - Playing For Change Day 2013 - the Playing For Change Foundation launched a new music and sports program in Masaka, a village near Rwanda's capital city, Kigali. The program takes place at Star School, a primary and secondary school founded by Bishop Nathan Amooti that now provides education for more than 300 underprivileged children. This program continues our commitment to serving orphaned and vulnerable children in Rwanda, and provides access to regular music and dance instruction, in addition to a soccer program.

The PFC crew is here in Congo recording new songs around the world. On our second day of filming we met this group of amazing musicians in Kinshasa and within minutes they where playing us some songs and sharing their stories. Today's video is a song titled "Toyeba Yo."

The TP OK Jazz Band in Kinshasa keep the memory of the Immortal Congolese Guitar player, Franco, alive and well. These musicians truly represent the soul of Congo and they teach us that even in terrible circumstances the artist and the musician must rise up to bring joy and hope to all those who will listen.

We traveled throughout the villages and cities of Colombia and along the way we were introduced to some of the best musicians in the country. This nation with so much history and soul is represented perfectly by the music and spirit of Toto La Momposina and her band. We asked her to share a traditional Colombian song with us, and this version of "los Sabores del Porro" performed beneath an ancient tree is the result.
