The UN Foundation is an advocate for the UN and platform for connecting people, ideas and resources to help the UN solve global problems. The UN Foundation has since become the premier organization in helping the UN meet these challenges.

As part of the first official annual National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11 and President Obamas service initiative, United We Serve, Ambassador Susan E. Rice participated in a Nothing But Nets service event hosted by the United Nations Foundation. Over 100 high school students from UNA-USAs Global Classrooms and The School Without Walls in Washington, DC attended the event to learn how service locally can make an impact globally. The Ambassador gave remarks to the group of students, which included 20 visiting students from Nigeria and Ghana. This video is a clip of her remarks. Source: Unfoundation

Reacting to the 6.5 earthquake in Pakistan, Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF) deployed a team of emergency telecommunications specialists on 29 October 2008. During its 15-day humanitarian calling operation, TSF offered more than 500 calls so that those affected could give news to their family and ask for help. TSF also set up an emergency communications center providing internet and phone access for other relief groups working in the remote Balcohistan province. The United Nations Foundation and Vodafone Foundation Technology Partnership supported this mission through its Emergency Communications for Disaster Relief program.
