People in poorer countries need to make difficult choices about how they spend the little money they have. Despite its proven cost effectiveness, eye-care is not always given the attention it deserves. With 80% of blindness being avoidable, and 60% of children dying within a year of going blind, the NGO wants to continue improving access to affordable eye-care in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Through their new commitment, they’ll deliver 35 eye-care projects globally, including five major projects focusing on child eye-care.

Campaña de democratización y regionalización de la ley de puntos de cultura. Surgida en Brasil y avalada por el Parlamento del Mercosur, la iniciativa busca que se destine una porción del presupuesto nacional al fomento de organizaciones de base que trabajen sobre la temática cultural. La ley brasilera fue bien vista por las redes Articulación Latinoamericana Cultura y Política y Red Latinoamericana de Arte y Transformación Social, que constituyen una plataforma de 65 organizaciones que opera en 11 países de este sector del globo. Ellas fueron las impulsoras de que el Parlamento del Mercosur abordara el tema el 30 de noviembre de 2009. El mismo decidió que los países miembro del Mercosur trabajaran sobre esta legislación, atenta a las particularidades de cada lugar.

Peace Pedalers is a "Worldwide Invitation to Ride". We took two-seat tandem bikes on an around-the-world adventure through 81 countries. But we did iPt a bit differently--We rode on the front seats and left the rear seats open to invite people . We brought extra riding clothes, helmets and camping equipment ready to share with strangers that soon become friends once they made a few pedal strokes on the tandem! Over 1,000 strangers accepted the invitation to ride, proving that language, cultural and religious boundaries can be crossed by anyone, anywhere. Inviting total strangers we met to share a slice of life and enjoy the cycling experience was our small gesture of peace, trust, acceptance and unconditional love. If they needed some financial assistance we offered to pay their food, accommodation and bus ticket back to their home town for extended tandem adventures. Each day was a mystery--who we would ride with, where we would eat and sleep, and what we would learn about these exciting new cultures.
