Description

Zoe Graham, a British filmmaker and journalist, travelled to Mozambique in June 2010 to create a documentary on landmine victims, to see what has been done for them since the end of civil war in 1992. After three decades of war, Mozambique was one of the most ravaged and heavily land mined countries on earth. Over the years, the issue has fallen off many donors' agendas but landmines continue to pose a threat to people today. Thousands of victims over the last forty years have never received medical attention or the chance to emotionally heal. Zoe's documentary gives a voice to these innocent victims of a legacy that is out of their control. "Voices from a Shattered Land" tells the stories of four landmine victims: Celso, a 10 year old boy who stepped on a landmine two years ago; Augusto, a 72 year old man who has been left to fend for himself for the last 32 years and Rosa and Helena, single mothers struggling to provide for their children. The documentary looks at the work being carried out by Handicap International and RAVIM- a local NGO set up by two landmine survivors in 2005- dedicated to improving the lives of landmine victims in Mozambique. Directed, Produced & Edited by: Zoe Graham Original Music & Audio by: Nick Olsouzidis Original Soundtrack courtesy of CMFD Productions With special thanks to One World Media For more information, please visit: www.handicap-international.org...

Maryse was badly injured in the earthquake when a wall collapsed on her and crushed her foot. The wound became infected, and Doctors had to amputate her foot in order to save her life. For Maryse, this was the start of a long and painful process of rehabilitation.

However, she never lost hope. After being fitted with an artificial limb at our rehabilitation centre, Maryse made a remarkable recovery. She is now working at the centre herself, helping with the day-to day running of the centre and is an example to other patients.

18 months on from the earthquake, our team in Haiti is continuing to support disabled and vulnerable people

Laos, Senegal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq...Years after conflicts have come to an end, these countries face the ''war after the war''. Besides causing death, landmines and cluster munitions breed poverty. They have an impact on all aspects of a nation's development: health, education, agriculture... To date, over 80 states have been affected by this scourge.

We need to act!

Support our fight on Saturday, September 24th by participating in this big day of activism organized by Handicap International at Phillips Square in Montréal from 11am to 6pm.

Don't forget to bring a pair of old shoes* to throw on the Pyramid as a symbol of protest!
